Sapphire Radeon 9000 with dvdinstall=0 in ini file

I got a Sapphire Radeon 9000. I got an ATI card because it had
onboard DVD decoding hardware. The CD ROM was labeled 12-002.

After much difficulty I finally got working drivers and installed the
multi media center software. The level was 7.6.

I noted a directory for dvd software, dvd, in mmcdvd_A, in install.

I installed it but did not get a DVD player.

I couldn't find anything like this with a google search.

I looked in file install.ini in the mmcdvd_A directory and discoverd a
specification of dvdinstall=0. All of the other components had
...install=1 specified.

I tried a reinstall and noted that I did not have a choice to install
a DVD player.

There was no serial number with the CD ROM.

The dvd directory has 9 M of dll and rsc files but no setup program.

What is this all about? Does Sapphire not provide the DVD player? Is
ATI trying to force you to get their card to get a DVD player? Did
they turn the installation off because the player has some problems?
If so, why put the files on the CD ROM? Can I copy the mmcdvd_ A
directory to my hard disk, put dvdinstall=1 in the ini file and
install it? Even if I do that will it want a number? I am reluctant
to try that for fear there might be a reason for disabling it don't to
risk trashing my system.

Anybody know anything?

You said before that your problem was that the installation CD _didn't_
install the DVD player. So what's the problem, then?

I have no problem with my Sapphire 9000AIW card or drivers, I have ATI DVD
Player installed fine. Just shared my card/driver findings with the group.
