Radeon 9000 Pro - DVI cuts out

Geoff

I have a Sappire Radeon Atlantis 9000 Pro 65MB card. Since starting to
use the DVI output when I bought a new monitor about a month ago, the
DVI output cuts out now and then. It's happening more since I started
playing a 3D game a few days ago. I could put up with it before but now
it's happening a lot more with this game, it's driving me nuts. I'm
using the latest drivers (the Sapphire ones are the same as on ATI's
site). I've also tried using and not using the Catalyst Control program.

The card has been perfect for years with my old monitor using the
analogue connection. It obviously isn't the monitor that's at fault, as
it wouldn't be more sensative when playing a game.

When it used to happen before I got rid of the Catalyst program, I got
an error from the ACEEventlog but now that I don't have Catalyst, I'm
not getting that error. It mentioned cli.exe though if that gives any clues?

I've read about this happening with Rage cards but not with the 9000.

Any ideas please?
Thanks,
Geoff.

P.S. to what I just wrote - I just found out about the Omega Drivers.
The site says they're based on Catalyst 6.7, but AVI say that the latest
my card can use is V6.5. Whichever, if they are based on the same
drivers, is it likely to solve the problem anyway?

I had same thing with an 8500. Called Viewsonic and they said to uncheck
"Disable High Frequency for DVI" in ATI Control Panel or something like
that. I cannot find that setting in Catalyst Control Center. It helped but
did not fix. I upgraded to 9800 Pro and now is completely fixed. Since the
9000 is less powerful than the 8500, I think you will have to upgrade if you
insist on using the DVI.

I don't have that option but maybe if I installed Catalyst again I
would, so I'll give that a try. I would try using analogue but I've lost
the lead! I'll borrow one and see if the quality is much less then buy a
lead if it's ok.

Thanks,
Geoff.

ATI stopped supporting Control Panel last year. You could look in the old
drivers and and get a CP version. Be sure to uninstall CCC first.

CLI.exe is the Catalyst Control Center. CCC isn't all that stable. Uninstall
the CCC and use ATi Tray Tools to set 3D options.

I'm confused with which drivers to install. I've looked for older ones
but it isn't clear which I should have. I currently have the drivers
that come with CCC V6.5, which is the latest I can use for my card. I
don't have CCC installed with them though and the problem is still
there, so will installing Tray Tools help in this case?

INdeed... I wonder how good .Net could be... :)
