Wanted to get into Safe Mode earlier this evening. The F8 key would
not function and I was unable to check the option in msconfig.
Eventually I turned off UAC which enabled me to make a selection in
msconfig. Is there an easier way as this is a convoluted way to
perform such a simple task ( or so I thought!).

Do you have your "F Key Lock" on your keyboard set to OFF?

That's something that didn't affect the process in the past using
Windows XP. I have one programme in XP where you have to turn the F
lock key on. The system in XP seems revert to OFF when Shutdown or
Restarted. There are some features of my Microsoft key board that I
have never quite figured out. However, as I said I could always use
the F8 key to access Safe mode in XP before I converted from XP to
dual booting XP and Vista.
