Safe Mode not working & No Repair Installation option

XP Home
Freezes/Hangs at a blank screen after Windows logo screen (with green status
bar). Safe mode hangs when trying to load drivers (last one displayed is
IPVNMon.sys). When I put in the XP CD I can get to the recovery console, but
not sure what do fix once I am there. With the CD I also never get an option
to do a Repair Install as described on the microsoft site and other forums.
It recognizes that there is an installation of XP already on the hard drive,
but only gives me the choice to install another one or overwrite the existing
one. I place my friend's hard drive (with XP) in and the CD gave me an option
to do a repair, but not with mine. Also I have run memory diags and my RAM is
fine. I have unhooked all my hardware except my hard drive and video card
(which seems to be working fine).
At the time the problem occurred, I was tyring to burn CD's. I have had this
system setup and burn CD's for quite some time. No hardware or driver changes
in quite a while. While burning CD's I had several random reboots, but
everything would come back ok. A while later I got a blue screen (didn't
catch the actual error unfortunately) and when it tried to reboot I had this
problem. All reboot choices (normal, last good config, all safe modes) do not
work.
If anyone can help with ideas, I would appreciate it!

Try putting the cdrw or cdrom on another spot on either of the IDE chains,
set the jumper pins accordingly,or,try useing youre friends cdrom, set jumper
pins accordingly.You might also,clean the xp cd.For recovery console,try
search at microsoft,type:314058 Youd want to use the BOOTCFG cmd
