if you dont care any more about your files and if you have all disk drivers
of you computer and you want a fast answer do a "clean install of the os"
if you dont have the drivers to install..don't worry, you can go to the
vendor website of your computer to update your drivers

1-set your computer to start with the windows cd: go to the bios.. you
restart the computer and press F2 constatly until you see the bios screen,
look for the boot sequency and set your cd drive to be the first(here i can't
help computers are different about this)(usually you click in the frst
driver"Floppy" and with the arrow key move up or down) Remember you need to
set cd drive as first drive..

2- use this article look for the section "Perform a clean install on windows
Xp"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941/en-us

the desktop aparence will change to be bigger or sometimes uggly don't worry
it will change when you update your drivers(by download in the websit or the
cd that came with the computer..

Not sure where you are, but try a Repair Install and if that doesn't work
try a Clean install.
If you do not have your data backed up, post back for other options before
proceeding with either procedure.
