RunOnce Trap - http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx

Win XP SP2 - IE7 My primary computer is a mature and stable XP SP2
load. I recently recovered from a situation where a IE wouldn't
connect to the Internet even though my other computers on the same DSL
Line were fine. The Event Log showed DCOM errors. I also discovered
that both Norton A/V and Norton Personal Firewall where non functional
and I uninstalled them and installed Trend Micro PC-Cillin.
A full scan showed no virus issues. No more DCOM errors and IE will
connect, but only after running http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx
and sitting there trying unsuccessfully to go to that link until I
force it to stop and go to my default home page. Thereafter all is
fine unless I forget and close IE and start again. I have looked
everywhere with MSConfig and Regedit and the MS Knowledge Base for
what is causing IE to start and try to connect to this broken link
without success. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

PA Bear,
Problem update.
I was able to change a Group Policy setting to get rid of the Runonce
reference and point it to my regular home page. That worked as far as
where IE tries to go when it starts. But now I realize that my DCOM
errors haven't gone away as previously thought. Now IE sits trying to
connect to my home page without success. The DCOM error is:
The server {FBA44040-BD27-4A09-ACC8-C08B7C723DCD} did not register
with DCOM within the required timeout.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.

I'm going to ask you to begin a new thread in IE General newsgroup about
your problem, please. In your first post, clearly state your Windows
version, IE version and when IE(7) was installed, the fact that Group Policy
is used, and the problem(s) you've encountered.
