Run Time errors

Whenever I open an e-mail attachment, I get the following Runtime Error message
Program:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\WINWORD.EXE.

abnormal program termination

I have Word 2002

I also get this same message when attempting to open Word 2002. I click "ok"
on the error window, reopen Word and receive the question do I want to open
Word in Safe Mode, choose option yes and Word opens. I would appreciate
hearing if there is a fix for this. I checked the MS knowledge base with no
results.
