Right Clicking

When I right click the desktop, I don't get the display properties box. The
eggtimer cursor comes on for about 30 seconds, and the desktop refreshes, and
the comp just carries on as if nothing has happened.
I get the same thing when I right click any open window, but when I right
click an icon, I get the usual drop down menu.
I also get the eggtimer and the delay and refresh when I LEFT click the File
option in the Windows Explorer menu bar, and no drop down menu.
When I try to turn on the Intrusion Detection in Norton, it tells me to
verify that my Windows account is not restricted. I am the system
administrator in Windows and Norton so there are no restarictions set.
Any ideas, guys?

I have the exact same problem!! I made a post last night asking for some
help. I'll let you know if I actually find that post so maybe they can help
you too.

Thanks for the reply, anonymous. I have actually fixed my right clicking
problem by using a downloaded utility. I forget now what it was called and
where I got it from, and I am not going to be at my own comp for a couple
more days, but if you can hang on for a day or two I will let you know the
info you need. It will save you having to hack your registry! Flibbit

Yes, that was the one. Solved the problem in short order once I figured out I
didn't have to re-boot every time I changed a switch! Thanks, Ramesh

If its not too much to ask, could you help me get through my problem by
telling me what you did? I'm not familiar with ShellExView, or its purpose
really... I just started using Windows XP a week ago.
