Taskbar and Start Menu

Using Windows XP Home Edition. Have been using this software on this
computer for over three years without problem. Now on start-up the Taskbar
and Start Menu do not become fully functional (if you place the cursor over
the bar all you get is the "eggtimer" as if it is still trying to open).
When clicking on Taskbar and Start Menu in Control Panel it does not
activate. All other tasks in Control Panel work OK. Apart from this the
computer seems to be working OK.

Hi Barry

"this software" referred to Windows XP Home Edition - the operating system.

Hi Kelly

We tried line 164 with no success. Previously on start-up the Taskbar would
populate first and then the various desktop icons would come up. Now the
desktop icons come up almost immediately and the task bar seems to be covered
over. When we open either outlook or the internet then the "start" button,
clock, and Google show up but cannot be accessed. In fact the clock stays on
the time the computer was booted.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Thanks all for the input. Seems like norton and/or internet explorer was
corrupted. Replaced both and now all is OK.
