Taskbar & startup menu not working

Hi, since today I have not been able to get my taskbar or startmenu to work.
All I get is the working symbol when I put my cursor over my taskbar or start
menu. I can still access my stuff from the desktop folders etc. but nothing
thru the taskbar or even start menu. I also cant run msconfig or anything
that requires accessing the start menu. The only way it works is if I boot
into safe mode as the administrator but not as my computer name account (if
that makes sense). I have to go right now & will add more later. Any help
would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Everyone is quick to blame a virus, etc., and once again I think that's
the cause. It certainly doesn't have to be, but any self-respecting
virus should try to block your accessing utilities that might shut it down.

In Safe Mode, run your a/v software and see if it finds anything.

Here are two registry and repairs for the Start Menu:

I read your posts & am in the process of trying a couple of things. I'd like
to Thankyou for the tips. I at least can now have a look at my config files &
see if maybe something is up there. I guess you learn something everyday! I
am also in the process of trying the Windows live scan of my computer which I
read from another post to see if there's something my own AV programs missed.
As I write this the live scan is so far saying that there are 9 items
detected & 1 issue found & it's only at 14%. It will be interesting what it
finds, as I do use spyware & virus programs regularly.
Will a new shell program be any better than the windows taskbar?

Okay, I've finally managed to get it working again.
I ended up playing with the config files by turning things off & on &
eventually found the right thing that caused the problem.
I still have to uninstall whatever it was somehow that was messing it up,
but at least it works. I also went thru the Windows Live Scan & it at first
said there were 9 items detected & 1 issue found, however by the time it was
done, my computer was clean, so I'm not sure if I just missed seeing it fix
things or if it just decided there was nothing there afterall by the end of
it. Anyway, I'm just glad my taskbar is up & running properly again.
Thanks again to those that replied!
