I am running Windows XP 6.0, and I use to have a icon of a "Volume - Speaker"
where I could click on and regulate the volume, without having to go through
the start menu. It keeps appearing and disappering from the taskbar. Is ther
a way to get it back on my taskbar and keep it there?

I suspect you have tried the following but
it's the only solution I'm aware of.

Go to...Control Panel / Sounds and Audio
Devices / Volume tab...

Check the box..."Place volume icon in the
task bar" / Apply / OK.

Right click on the Taskbar | Properties | Customize. Find the speaker icon
and change the behavior to: Always Show.

Solution given by JohnInzer and Bruce Hagen does not always work: the
icon is absent, sometimes, even when the "place icon in taskbar" or
"always show" is ticked. If this be so, unselect the option, press
"apply"; then re-select the option and "Apply" again. This procedure
has always worked for me.

Hi Steve,

If the other suggestions don't work, check your audio card. I have seen
instances where the card wasn't seated properly (or failed) and so
without an audio device, the speaker won't appear.
