Restored XP Pro. Now user files are hidden

The short version is I changed a setting that lockied me out of my PC
completely. I used my quick restore disk from HP. That was supposed to
re-install XP without erasing everything else. Now XP is up again, finally,
but there are no programs available. I can find program files on the hard
drive, but they show as hidden and will not run. In particular my old user
account is there but I am not given the option of signing on with it. Is
there some way to access these files again?

Sounds like you did a 'parallel' installation.

In order to get your applications to work - you will have to install them.
You can COPY the files and such from your old user profile. I do *not*
suggest getting more than the files you actually created.
