replacing dvd rom with dvd writer

i have an hp with a cd writer and a dvd rom. i have
purchased a dvd writer that i want to replace my dvd rom
with...my question is, do i need to uninstall the dvd rom
before i replace it, or if i just take puter apart and
swap out the two units will the computer know the
differance when i turn the computer back on and begin the
installation process when i put the install disk in?

Hi John,

Uninstall the old drive from Device Manager before shutting down to make the
switch. While not critical, it may help prevent conflicts.
