Drive is not accessible after installing DVD writer

I've just installed a new DVD write replacing the DVD Rom which was in the
smae bay. The drive plays DVDs, CDs (music & data) perfectly well however
when I out a DVD-RW in the drive the designation in my computer changes from
DVD-RW to CD-ROM and if I try to write to it I get a error stating F:\ is not
accessible Incorrect function. I'm not using anything other than Windows to
write to the disk (No Roxio on the PC either).
DVD writer is currently the slave to a CD writer Master (that was the
original state before I replaced the DVD Rom)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Windows does not have the ability to write to DVDs.
Install the third party application of your choice that will write to DVDs.

XP cannot natively burn DVDs, and the XP burning facility will only
recognize one burner at a time. So, you will need third-party software to
be able to burn DVDs and "see" both drives as burners.
