Repeated request for login when sending mail

My Windows Mail has been working fine, now suddenly starts this odd behavior.
When I open WM, it receives all my new mail fine. When I go to send a new
mail or reply to an email, it presents the login dialog, asking for username
and password. When I enter that info, it just presents the same login
dialog, like the username/password combination I entered is not valid. So I
am unable to send emails.

Any idea?

Thanks

What antivirus programs if any do you have? Many of those from Norton or
McAfee, and a recent version from Trend, cause various problems in
Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

You may need to ask your email provider (who is probably also your
internet provider) for instructions for setting up to use their email
server, then click on Tools, then Accounts, then your current email
account, then Remove, and then set up the account again without
the corruption caused by antivirus programs that scan email. If they
haven't written instructions for Windows Mail yet, use their
instructions for Outlook Express but under Windows Mail instead.

I've already removed and set up the email account again. It did not help.

Thanks

This problem may be caused by an incompatible antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
and Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

If after uninstalling your antivirus, the problem with Windows
Mail persists, delete that corrupted mail account, restart
Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

OK thanks for that info. I will have a look into this. McAfee is installed.

By the way, is AVG generally compatible with WM?

Thanks

AVG is compatible only if during the install process you choose
'custom' install, which gives you the option to unselect the email
scanning module.

I haven't heard anything bad about Avira. Just make sure to
unselect the email scanning option.
