repairing updated version of XP

W

who

I bought my copy of XP soon after it came out. I've done all the
upgrades all along. Now, my control panel won't allow me to add/remove
software so I attempted to do a repair with my XP disk. I get a
message saying that the version on my machine is newer than the
version I am trying to use to repair. Any ideas?

You're getting that message because your computer has Service
Pack 2 installed. That's what makes it a "newer" version.

You've got two options, uninstall SP2, or create what's called
a "slipstreamed" installation CD. Here are a few web sites that
will explain the process a whole lot better than I could in
this forum.

Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP

Here are some of the files you'll need to obtain in order to
follow this procedure:

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT
Professionals and Developers

AutoStreamer 1.0.33

CDBurner XPPro

Here's another article that you may find helpful with this
issue:

Good luck
