Win XP Pro Repair

I need to repair my current SP 2 version of XP. I purchased XP as soon as it
came out; obviously well before any SP's were available.
My question is: if I attempt a repair I am told my version is newer than the
original disk I'm using and it will remove files etc if I continue. This
warning is showing if I place the original disc in the cd-rom; I haven't
tried booting to the cd yet however. Will I destroy anything? Will I have to
reload all the patches, SP's etc?
Thank you much in advance for any help

Rich - Hey thanks a bunch. My problem should go away as soon as I do this.
The heart of the problem is that when clicking on My Computer in Explorer I
continually get the search flash light in the right pane of the window the
files, directorites etc pop up; sometimes for a couple minutes. I also get a
maddening error on occassion when I open an email and want to reply. Nothing
serious, just a pop-up with a long string of stuff I don't understand, but
that doesn't cause any problems when I close it and continue with the reply.
Again Rich= thanks for your time
