repairing xp with a different disk

I am repairing a HP Pavilion with an OEM disk and notice during the repair it
prompts me for the product key. Will my applications and data be intact once
the repair is complete? I have no problem registering the OEM version of XP.
I have done repairs before but always with the original disk.

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that during an 'upgrade' repair like
that (to OEM), that your profile would come thru the upgrade intact. I would
use the FAST Wizard to save my profile and data before trying it. If the
system will at least start in Safe Mode (F8 on restart) you will be able to
run the Fast Wizard.

Save settings and data with the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard (FAST
wizard): Go To: http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

Unfortunately, I couldn't boot to safe mode so I went ahead with the
upgrade/repair which proved successful. All of the user settings were
retained and the applications are intacted. I had to re-enter the wireless
WAP key and re-install USB serial drivers but that was it. Thanks for your
comments.
