Reversing a partial Windows repair

My laptop has an oem version of XP Home - no disk was ever included.
I used another disk to perform a repair, intending on using the laptop
product key when the time came to register it.
Problem is, I used an upgrade version and of course the oem version was the
full install. So, now I'm stuck - it won't accept the product key from the
laptop, and I don't want to use the product key from the already being used
upgrade version. And of course, there's no cancel option on the repair.
Is there a way out of this dilemna?
YThanks for any help, Rob
