hello. i am wondering if there is a way to change the
name of who a computer is registered to. my girlfriend
bought me this computer for my birthday and when xp was
installed they used her name. can this be changed ? any
help is appreciated...

In System Properties in Control Panel, select the Computer Name
Tab > select "change" > off you go.
