renaming pictures

when i copy picture from the internet i get duplicate
names so that i have to choose one or the other i want to
rename the originnal and then down load the new one but
this program says that it will change the picture and
make it unreadable. what do i have to do to change the
names of my pictures and not looses them. need them to
remain .jpg

When you rename the file make sure that you include the
file extension, ie oldorig.jpg
