Renaming Drive labels

Does any one know how to change permanently the icon AND label for optical
drives. I have two optical drives, a DVD RW and a CDRW. My default settings
show for both a CD icon and the disk type label "CD Rom". I can change the
icon using Micorangelo and the label with Widnos Disk management. However
the though the new icon is still shown after a reboot, the label always goes
back to the default. I have seen a Registry edit to add "Drive icon" keys in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer but it does not work
for me, just causes the OS to hang after a reboot.
Does anyone know a way?

The edit you mentioned should work for changing both the icon & the label. Here's an export of my registry entries for a custom icon & label:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\D]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\D\DefaultIcon]
@="c:\\windows\\system32\\SHELL32.dll,15"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\D\DefaultLabel]
@="Custom Label Here"

And you can see a screenshot here:

Not sure why trying to change the icon would cause you to hang on reboot...is the path available at startup???
