Invisible DVD Drive

The icon for my DVD Drive (J:) does not appear in Windows Explorer.
This happened after I created a small partition on my Secondary HDD for the
PageFIle.
It works normally but I have to manually enter the path in the address bar.
It then appears in WinEx, but is lost again when closed.
The BIOS boot up session show both DVD drives.
Any suggestions to put this right?

Twanny,

When you created the "small partition" was this by any chance assigned the
letter J:?

If it was try the following:

Right Click My Computer
Click Manage
Click Disk Management

You should be able to see the your DVD drive listed with a drive letter
assigned. If the new partiton you created was assigned J:, right click the
DVD drive and click change drive letters and paths and choose a different
drive letter.

Yes Steve: then I called up Computer Management and from Disk Management
changed the Drive letter to H: which was accepted. Then ofcourse I had to
change the drive letter for the last of my two DVD Drives, which was also
accepted and shown correctly here. It is only in Windows Explorer that it
(J:\DVD-Drive) is not visible. The Drive works well as I said, and inserting
a DVD media automatically plays it too.

This is proving to be a tough nut Wes and I am getting drowsy (it's midnight
here). I have tried both of the fixes indicated, rebooted and even switched
the PC off completely- still no sight of J:\ . I will assign a different
drive letter and see if it reappears. I will surely let you know.
THanks for your support

Hello Wes & Steve:
No amount of tweaking could get the J: drive back in the Right Pane of
WinExpl.
I tried Acronis Disk Director and renamed the last drive to leave a "vacant"
place in the hope the DVD drive will appear again. This failed too.
As a last resort I deleted the Partition H: I had created before and
amazingly, there was the blessed Drive J: in all its splendour! I cannot
understand WinXP - so powerful yet causes such quirks.

You might find it convenient, if you mess with partitions and drives alot,
to designate drive letters further down the alphabet for the DVD drives.
Give yourself plenty of room, S: and T: for instance.

I did Dave: in fact I assigned Drive Letters K and L, but to no avail. It
might be important to note that the new partition H: I had previously created
for the Page file was made by the Acronis CD which installs itself before
Boot Up. I do not understand with goes on"behind the scenes" but this might
have the cause. In fact when I deleted the said partition (H:), the
"invisible" DVD Drive was restored in Win Exp.
P.S. I had thought that Drive letters are to be contiguous. Is this not the
case then?
