I recently updated all XP files (long story, but no updates had been made
since system began)

I now have an extra page when starting up...it asks for me to logon, and
then says "loading personal settings"......is there anyway of getting rid of
this page....i dont need it, theres only me that uses the computer.
Thanks in advance

No, there's no way to get rid of it. It's a standard step in the XP boot
process: Windows is loading a registry hive that is based on your user
account. How long the step takes to complete depends on the complexity of
the user's account.

Since you have just reinstalled, you should see a gradual increase of
performance over the next week or so. During that period of time, XP will
optimize itself based on your usage patterns.
