Removable storage physical location not detected

Ken Bresin

Win2K Server running on a Compaq ProLiant with a Tandberg
SLR7 tape device. It has been working fine for 2 years.
Now, the server's device manager reports the device and
that's it's working properly. However, Backup Exec always
reports the drive is "empty". But the Removable Storage
Manager doesn't report the device at all. (It did, with a
red "X", and a property status of "not present" before
the Veritas tech. had me uninstall the drive then let
Windows reinstall it...which it did, but only as above.)

I've uninstalled Win2K's SP4 but that didn't help. Backup
Exec is fully patched.

Ideas?

I am having the same problem with a Compaq 20/40 DAT tape drive with the
drive showing up in the Removable Storage Manager with a red X on it and the
drive being reported as empty. I have tried suggestions from Microsoft
Knowledge Base, Veritas Knowledge Base and Compaq with no success. Did you
ever find a solution to this problem?
