Sorry, not Strictly 'on topic' but since I guess most of us back up
our servers someone out there may be able to offer some insight.
Having a really frustrating time trying to Catalog tapes using Backup
Exec 9.1.
The tapes were written to on a different server (also bkexec 9.1, same
make and model of hardware)
Tape drive is DLT VS80
OS is W2K sp4
I can Inventory the tape and get a tape name but when I try to Catalog
it will run for over three hours (if I let it) and then fail with an
I/O error.
I'm actually running DR tests and the strange things is that the first
time I try the catalog with the tape it appears to work. Subsequent
attempts fail.
I thought I may have found the problem when experimenting with NT
Backup required me not to have the tape ‘write protected' in order to
run a catalog but this didn't help with the backup Exec issue.
A tape that refused to Catalog with Backup Exec seemed happy to be
Cataloged using NT Backup!!
I've tried deleting the Catalog directory and setting up a new one.
Downloading the latest Tape driver from Microsoft Update.
Using the Tape driver from the Veritas Installation media.
The one time that I did just leave it to run it failed with the error:
Storage Device "BNCHMARK 1" reported an error on a request to space to
end of data.
Error Reported:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
Any thoughts much appreciated?
