Removable Storage - Physical Location is missing

Glen

Somehow I managed to remove or delete my Sony DDS-2 tape
device from Computer management / Storage / Removable
storage / Physical locations.

This device is no longer selectable in the Backup program
or listed as a device in the area listed above.

How do I get this device recognized and usable again?

Thank you.

Make sure the tape drive is showing up correctly in Device Manager.

The device shows up correctly in Device Manager as a Tape
Device, Sony SDT-7000 SCSI Sequential Device.

No conflicts, Microsoft driver, etc.

What backup software are you using? That will determine what driver you
need. Also, some third-party backup software don't need to be a part of
Removable Storage (RSM). Windows Backup (ntbackup.exe) requires RSM.

- Have you tried a Refresh under RSM?
- Is the permissions coorect under RSM?
- Are you logging on as the correct user with the correct rights?
- Has this ever worked? What changed?
- Are there any events in the System or Application log about this tape
drive?

If you are using Ntbackup.exe and none of the above helps, your Removable
Storage database may be corrupt. You may want to try the RESOLUTION steps in
the following article:

FYI: Here is a reference to Sony's website on this tape drive where you can
download drivers and firmware updates :

Refresh, no change.
Verified correct permissions/user/rights.
Yes. This did work some time ago.

I don't remember what inspired me to do it, but I believe
I pressed <Delete> when the Sony SDT-7000 device was
selected under Computer Management/Storage/Removable
Storage/Physical Locations.

The suggestions you made via article 235032, were taken
and tried without the desired results.

Installing the Sony supplied drivers also made no
difference.

The drive passes all tests using the Sony diagnostics
program.

Veritas Backup Exec 4.5 was the supplied software, and
after a clean install this device is still not seen as an
available device.

The Microsoft Backup accessory also does not recognize
this drive still.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you.
