I have a Windows 2000 SP4 Server that i have a 500GB External hard drive
plugged into for backups. If i want to remove the drive and go into safely
remove devices the drive is not listed, but it is showing in My Computer and
in Device manager, and the drive works perfectly well. Is this a Server 2000
thing as the drive seems to work fine on other systems.
Any help would be appreciated.

It probably has to do with the driver for the disk cartridge so ask the
manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply Dave, but it does not need a driver, it is viewed as a
mas storage device, like on any other PC. I did have a thought that it has to
do with the hardware removal settings ie: optimized for quick removal etc,
but not sure if Windows 2000 has these settings. Do you have any other
thoughts?
Cheers

I'd still look at the manufacturer's web site to see if a specific driver is
available.
