removable storage error

SP SR2
Dell desktop, 2 external USB drives, 1 Netgear NAS drive.

Having some problems with my PC, one of which is Removable Storage and
I'm guessing the above drives are 'Removable Storage.'
In Computer Management>Storage>Removable Storage . .
Every time I select Removable Storage, I get the hourglass that stays on
the screen (I suppose forever) until I CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill it.
I suppose related Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management . . .
when I select this I get the hourglass for 2-3 minutes, followed by
"server execution failed."
And Event ID 2001 - 'Unable to read disk performance information.'
I have no errors in Device Manager.
I can access all drives.
My fear is one of these drives may be failing or I have a corrupt driver.
Help please.

BTW, just shut down the PC and removed all 3 drives. Rebooted. Same
errors. Installed all drives one at a time. With the Iomega USB drive
I get a large number of Event ID 57 - 'System failed to flush data' or
Event ID 51 - 'An error was detected during a paging operation.'
