How can I remotely control another computer across the internet?

Recently I had some problems with my email server software and the
technician was able to take control of my computer to help me resolve my
problem. I remember I had to let him know my IP address but I don't
remember what else.

Now, my daughter just called from college and is asking me to help her with
some problems she's having. I know I could help if I could scan her files
and see what she is seeing when we run some diagnostics. We both have XP-Pro
and are connected via the cable modems

Thanks in advance

You can use either Remote Assistance (for a help desk function) or Remote Desktop (a complete
access/control function)... In your situation I recommend trying Remote Assistance first. That way
your daughter can watch, and learn, while you fix things on her PC...:-)

Remote Assistance...or open "Help and Support" and search on 'remote assistance'...

Remote Desktop...

Note that you may need to forward/open TCP Port 3389 through any firewall/NAT/router that either PC
may be behind.
