Remote Desktop Disconnected

Hi,

My boss and I, whenever we try to connect to our computers
at work, using remote desktop from home, we get the
following message:

"Remote Desktop Disconnected

The specified remote computer could not be found. Verify
that you have typed the computer name or IP address, and
then try connecting again."

Now, as for me I could connect after three attempts, but
my boss has to make 20 attempts until he can connect, and
sometimes it doesn't connect at all. He says, he can't
connect using his IP address, either.

Both of us have WinXP Pro at home. I use dial up, he uses
DSL. I connect to a Win2K Server machine, he connects to
WinXP Pro machine.

What could be the problem?

Thanks

Any number of problems can cause this issue. The most common problem
is a poor network connection (i.e., bad router at your ISP, network
errors, etc). Usually this is the case if the connection problems are
sporadic.

Questions about your config:
1. Are you using the Web Client or the XP RD Client?
2. Are you trying to access over the Internet (with the appropriate
ports forwarded) or with a VPN?
3. Are there any entries in the event log on your computers related
to Remote Desktop/Terminal Services?

It could be a misconfigured router anywhere along the line...
However, this shouldn't be the case when you are connected via VPNs...

What type of experience do you see when using your VPN? Slow/Fast?
