Remote Desktop Crashing computer

C

Cam Schwieder

Hello,

I seem to be having some issues with the XP remote desktop feature. The
basic setup I have is this:

WinGate VPN
2 Local Computers (both running XP Proffesional)
1 Remote computer (Windows 2000)

I want the remote computer to be able to remote-desktop into both local
computers. The VPN is running correctly, and I can connect to one computer
on the network correctly, but whenever I try to connect to the other
computer (the VPN server, which runs on ports 808 and 809) it crashes the
remote computer everytime with the blue screen. The odd time I will get to
the login window for the remote desktop, but while I am still typing my
login information in, the computer will crash in the same way.

I have remote desktop running on the default port (3389 I believe) so the
VPN should not be an issue, but none the less, this is still happening.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,

Cam Schwieder

Any error messages?

Anything in the event log(s) that may help pinpoint this problem?

If you try to connect over your private LAN (local PC to local PC using Remote Desktop) does the
same thing happen?

When your computer restarts, does it give you an option to submit the
crash report to MS? If so, let it get submitted and it will be
analyzed by the Online Crash Analysis system, which will then indicate
what area of your system may be causing the problem...

Jeffrey,

Thanks for the reply but alas, the client computer is a Windows 2000 system
and so it does not give the option to submit a crash report.

Does anyone know where I can find the log files for remote desktop or a full
system crash?? Anything would be appreciated,

Thanks
Cam

Take a look at the following article
(http://oca.microsoft.com/en/FAQ.asp#computerSetup)

You can submit a mini-dump for analysis.
