I have two computers at home, each running XP Pro. I have DSL, with an
Actiontec router. I have a DLink Gigabit switch plugged into the
router, and the 2 PCs plugged in to the switch. I have changed the RDP
port on one of the computers and left the other one the default 3389.
I have set up port forwarding for both ports on the router (both TCP
and UDP, from any IP). I do not have Windows Firewall running on
either machine. Both Shields Up!!
(http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2) and CanYouSeeMe.org say my ports
are open.
I can Remote Desktop from each machine to the other using my local
192.168.0.x addresses. The goal, however, is to Remote Desktop from
work.
When I RD from one of my home machines to the other using my external
DSL IP address, I get the "The client could not connect to the remote
computer..." message. I get the same message when I RD from work
(using the external IP address of course).
Any idea why this might be happening, and how I might fix it?
Thanks,
Mike.
