remote assistance

Hank

Whenever someone sends me a request for remote assistance
via e-mail, and I try to connect with them, I get the
following message:

Remote Assistance connection could not be established
because the remote host name could not be resolved.
Please try again.

I have tried disabling my firewall and the firewall on
the computer making the request to no avail. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you've done this: Right-click 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'
and 'Remote' tab. Check 'Allow users to connect....'

I looked at that and it's set properly. I thought this
remote assistance thing was supposed to be easy.

Anyone you are trying to connect to behind a NAT device or have their
firewall on?

I had exactly the same problem. I had my XP pc connected
to my mom's XP pc, using remote assitance. It worked
great until I downloaded the latest Windows Updates (about
the last 5) to my mom's pc. When she rebooted, we could
no longer establish a connection, and got the same error
you quoted. Prior to the updates, RA worked fine, even
with both PCs' Windows firewall enabled, and mine with an
additional PCcillin firewall, and behind a NAT router.

Not sure what happened.

I'll have to check the My computer/Properties/Remote/Allow
users suggestion mentioned in this string
