Remote assistance

Mick

Can anyone help me with the following message:

"Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote
host name could not be resolved. Please try again."

I can connect from PC 1 to PC 2, but when I try to connect from PC 2 to PC 1
I get this message.

I can email OK between both PCs

Any help would be most appreciated
Mick

Hi Mick,

Is PC 1 behind a router? If so, you will need to enable port forwarding on
the router for port 3389 to the internal IP of PC 1.

Thanks for your reply, to explain, I have a small LAN at home which consists
of 4 PCs and one of which I want to use for Remote Assistance. At the
moment I have set up a friends PC and connected it to my LAN so I can test
it before he takes it home. My LAN does use a router. If I request Remote
Assistance on my friends PC I get the message below on the PC I want to use
for Remote Assistance. However, If I request Remote Assistance from the
Remote Assistance PC to my friends PC all works as expected.

Kind Regards
Mick

Right, it can't find it as the requests are being redirected. Edit the RA
request file to point to the local IP of the machine behind the LAN rather
than the one used by the outside world. Your router is probably configured
to forward all requests on 3389 to your machine, not your friends.

Thanks Rick

Luck is something I'm a bit short on at this time, I'm sorry, but can you
give me a little more help with how/where I edit the file you mentioned
please?

Kind regards
Mick

Hi Mick.

How are you setting up the RA session? Try the option to email or create a
file to send. When you receive the file, open it in notepad and change the
IP address, save it and then run the RA session with it.

I had been using windows messenger as there always seems to be a long wait

Kind Regards

MS Messenger is fine, but you cannot edit the file (unless of course you
first save it, then send it via messenger).
