Remote Assistance

My Mother and I had been connecting remotely for over a year with no
problems. After we both unsucessfully installed SP2 and had to uninstall it
and reinstall windows we cannot get it to connect. We both use XP home and
have SP1 currently installed (afraid to tackle SP2 again) A connection is
made when invitation is sent and the window will open but it immediatley
gives us the message that connection has timed out, novice did not respond in
time. We both have remote assistance allowed on our computers and both
connect to internet with Comcast cable modem. That has not changed since she
got here computer. I am able to connect with my daughter who has SP2
installed on her computer with no problems. Please help. My mother is
working with her first computer at age 75 and needs me to be able to assist
her from time to time.
Thanks in advance.

You cannot offer remote assistance to a user whose computer is running Windows XP Service Pack 2

Troubleshooting Remote Assistance Issues

"When you receive an invitation from an Internet user whose
computer is behind a router or firewall, the IP sent to you is
the Private IP behind the router or firewall, so that you can't
access the computer. To fix this issue: 1) use Notepad to open
the invitation to change the Private IP to the Public IP which
may be the router or firewall's IP. 2) Use Windows Messenger
to establish the Remote Assistance session".
