Remote assistance error message

When trying to connect with RA (Vista Ultimate to Vista Home Premium)
everything goes fine until its time to connect but then get error message
stating "Remote assistance unable to connect"- "The person you are trying to
help may have closed remote assistance". I know the person I am assisting has
not closed the program yet we continue to get the message. We have checked
windows firewall but his machine also runs Norton Internet Security. Can that
be causing this or may there be another solution. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Yes, NIS can be causing it. Also, is that system behind a router? If so,
then you may need to edit the RA file so that you are connecting to the
user's external IP (the one that the router is connected to) and not the
internal IP used by the machine (usually in the 192.168.x.x range).

Thanks. I have the same problem with two vista ultimate. I can from the
Desktop request RA and it works on the laptop. When the laptop requests RA,
The Desktop gets the error message. Both use the same router. Laptop is
wireless. How do I 'edit' the RA? Should I set an entry in the router for
RA using the 192.168.0.1 Gateway IP instead of each PC's IP?

Hi,

Behind the router the IP's of each machine should be correct for access.
It's only when the RA file is sent to an external source that it becomes
necessary to edit it (which, by the way, can be done by opening the file in
wordpad).
