Remote Desktop Connection Issue

I'm trying to help mom with her new computer... Both are running Vista, but
when I try to connect, it just times out. I have removed my router as well
as disabled Windows Live OneCare Firewall. Is there some other trick to get
this to work? I get the message "The error message: The person you are
trying to help might have closed Remote Assistance" even though remote
assistance was never closed. Any help greatly appreciated.

I suspect that the you may have closed the remote assistance window on the
other computer... just as it says. I did the same thing. When you create an
remote assistance invitation and it is sent by email or whatever way you
send it - don't close that window on the computer that you are going to
assist with. I know what you want to do is press close, or finish, or
whatever is on that last page of the wizard but don't.

I think this is so that you can't randomly start a remote assistance
connection whenever you want just because you have an invitation for that
computer - security issue.

Thanks for the response. We actually tried several times, and I made sure
she didnt' close the "waiting for call" window. It seems to be some other
issue I think.

Which version of Vista? I think I heard that one or both of the Home
versions
can't be used on one end of the connection.
