Ken

can anyone please tell me how to reinstall the xp home
edition os to a new formatted hd. The current hd is going
bad and I am getting SMART errors upon power up.

Make sure that your BIOS supports an option to boot up from CD -- if your
motherboard does not have it you have to download a tool from Microsoft site
and put in on floppy.

In case you can boot from CD:

- insert CD w/Win Xp
- reboot and when prompted on screen "Boot from CD press any key..."
- press Enter and system starts boot up from CD
- Press F6 if you need to isntall some contrllers -- if not let it run till
you are asked what to do
- select new install and follow up instruction to complete your installation

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP Installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
