Backup all important data/etc, put in Windows XP Home CD, set BIOS to boot
from it, do so, delete system partition, create new partition, format and
install. Stay disconnected from the Internet unless your firewall is on and
once it is - update with SP2 and all 80+ post-SP2 updates. That's it.
You could use something to create a new Windows XP Home CD from your old to
integrate at least SP2 - or not. Up to you. NLite would work.
AutoStreamer too. You could get all the updates and integrate them all into
a new CD and/or just have them ready to install - keeping your machine off
the Internet completely until you have them all on and your
AntiVirus/AntiSpyware software reinstalled. You can google for NLite and/or
AutoStreamer and probably get a whole host of other tools to help you do
that.
