Registry problem, now Windows XP won't start! HELP!

Hi,

A friend was over "upgrading" my computer, made some changes to the
registry and now I cannot get my computer to work. I thought I was
being smart and made a backup of my old registry (exported it to a
file on my desktop). However, I cannot even get Windows to start so I
can make the necessary changes. I am running Windows XP Pro that came
with my computer. So I don't have a Windows XP disc. The only disc I
have with Windows XP on it is the system recover disc that will format
my C: . Is there any way to edit the new registry back to the old one
without being able to start Win XP?

Here's what happens when I turn my computer on:
I get the normal screen "Windows XP Professional" and it looks like
everything is fine. Then it hangs there for a minute and a blue
screen flashes on for a second, goes black and then the Win XP screen
comes back on. This will continue to repeat if I don't turn off the
power. (Note: The blue screen says:

c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly
with a status of 0x00000403 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.)

The only reason I know it says this is because I recorded it using my
camcorder because it was on the screen for only a split second. If
anybody has any suggestions on what I should do to fix the problem,
I'd greatly appreaciate it. Thanks!

Jim

Sorry, it wasn't me. Or at least I don't think it was, considering I
don't know what a fly kick is.

Get the download from
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;310994
that will make a set of six floppies which will boot you up to the same
point as the 'recovery boot of the regular CD (or see if you can borrow
a CD - for this purpose it does not need to match your system too well),
and then follow the procedure given at

Thanks for the info. Is there any way to download this same boot
information and put it on CD? My laptop does not have a floppy drive?
What are my options. THANKS AGAIN!

You might get somewhere with the techniques used in 'Slipstreaming' a CD
with SP1, at www.justinwojas.com. But I think I would try to get a
regular CD: you can probably buy one cheap from one of the sales on eBay
that is selling them (as something of a scam) without product keys. Or
even get a copy from one, regarded as a backup copy. A CD without a key
is not of value for installing a system, but could be for minor repairs
