Registry Permissions - Global Changes?

I notice when running some in-depth Registry cleaning applications that
corrections are unable to be made on some Registry settings because
"permission is denied". When I manually select these settings, I find that
the permissions boxes are unhecked for myself as administrator and System.
While I can manually check the permissions boxes for each of the selected
areas, is there any way to set the permissions for the administrator on a
global basis so that I don't have to access each item individually to add the
permissions?

Set the permissions at the Root Key then propagate the permissions to
the child objects (the rest of the subtree). Be careful with this,
create a restore point and backup your registry before you do this.

For all it's worth "in depth registry cleaning" and registry cleaners in
general cause more harm than good. You would be well advised not to do
any registry cleaning and leave well enough alone!

I will give that a try and I agree with you about registry cleaning in
general but it's my understanding that when the registry contains many
unnecessary and incorrect items, it can slow down the computer. Of course,
changes can be undone by backing up as you suggest so long as the changes
don't cause rebooting problems which still can be overcome but with a lot of
hassle.

Thanks for the quick response

You would need a stop watch that measures in hundredths of seconds to
clock any real difference, if any. These things are ok for certain
advanced troubleshooting but they can wreak absolute havoc on otherwise
perfectly good systems.
