Have Windows XP Home Edition -- SP 1
Trying to install SP 2.
Getting those nasty "Acccess Denied" errors and it craps out midway
through installing SP2.
Typical error in the setupapi.log file is:
#E008 Setting registry value
HKCR\DXImageTransform.Microsoft.MMSpecialEffect1Input
#E033 Error 5: Access is denied.
So I know, I got to got to the registry and change the permission to
"Administrators" so maybe SP2 will install, but, I go there first it
says I "do not have permission to view the current permission setting
for ..." But then I re-right click and it gets me to the permission
thing. Then I tell it what permissions and go to apply them and it
says "unable to save permission changes. Access is denied."
I cannot change these permissions so that means if I re-run the SP2
install it will crap out at the same place. And I have the sense even
if I get the thing to accept permissions for this subkey it will then
just crap out at the next key.
I created a new user and gave it Administrator rights and used that
user but it still does not let me change the permissions.
This has happened with multiple keys - not just this one.
What am I doing wrong? Why cannot I change the permissions? Also,
anyway to do a global change in permissions AND HAVE IT ACCEPT IT FOR
EACH AND EVERY KEY?
This is a real pain in the arse to go through just to install SP2.
Thanks.
