Help!!! Lost ALL permissions to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT !!!

Guest

Help,

I was having a registry problem where certain registry keys had no
privileges for Administrators. I tried to cascade the permissions of
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT down by using regedit. I checked the Replace Permissions
on all child objects... l box in the Advanced tab.

Unfortunately, I left the Inherit from Parent checkbox checked.
This appears to have replaced all permissions in KKEY_CLASSES_ROOT with
blank permissions!!!

Is there any way to get permissions back??!!!

Please help.
Thanks,

Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for the information. I would like to try, but am now locked out of
my PC. I was unable to change the settings for my power options, and it has
since timed out, and logged me out. When I restart my computer, I have not
logon options...

Any way to get back in..?

Thanks,
Jeff

You can get to the Recovery Console Prompt from a boot to XP setup CD (press
'r' for repair), to reset all security to default.

Jeff,

You should be able to run SubInACL from BartPE boot environment. See my post here:

Correction: You should be able to reset the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT permissions using BartPE's boot environment.

You don't have to use SubInACL in that case.
