hello,
i'm helping a friend of mine to solve a windows xp trouble, i mean,
everytime OS is loaded appear some alerts where is written that a file
is not found at startup, filename is unreadeable, i mean it's composed
by little rectangles and strange characters, if i press ok it go all
ok.

running 'msconfig' in Start tab i see those strange characters both in
"Start element" and "Command", in "Path" field i read:
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows:Run the first
one
and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows:Load the
second one

while i try to disable this i can't start as "normal start" provo but
"selective start" and "diagnostic start" and i can't remove those two
elements neither rebooting the system.

any idea? :|

thank you

ps: maybe commands/fields translations are wrong, i have an italian
version MS Windows XP system

Hi,

Not exactly sure what question you are asking but here's some advice for
you. You need to uncheckmark this process from startup tab in MSCONFIG. It
will automatically change to selective startup because you are selecting
which processes and programs you want to start or not to start. It will be
fine to be in selective startup. If you have any more questions please be
specific in what you are needing help with. Hope this helps you. Good Luck

Navigate to the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
and delete the entries.

Also under the Run Keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

This will remove the entries from msconfig:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\services

Also, run this combo:

Run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot and HijackThis:

Note: Update the first two programs, once installed, before running.
