Recovery console asking for admin password.

I am trying to do a repair installation of XP. When I get
to the recovery console, it is asking me for an
administrator password. I have never set one up before,
and when I just hit enter, it dumps me to the C:>windows.
Any way around this? Thanks

Its working perfectly. The recovery console is a limited command line
access to make repairs, not a full blown windows presentation (that is
was SAFE mode is for).

A repair installation and recovery console are two different things. From
what you have described its doing exactly what its supposed to do. When you
boot from the CD DO NOT hit "r" for repair hit enter to install then f8 to
agree. then you can use the 'R' to do a repair install

I am having a problem with that part of it...when I get to
the "Setup" or "Recovery" choice and hit enter I get a
message telling me "cannot find a previous version..."
even though XP Home was installed and running for over two
weeks, "install CD and hit enter", and it just loops back
through the entire process. My only option then is to hit
F3 and abort the operation. Any ideas what's up?
