Hello!

I've restarted my windows mail database deleting MessageStore two files.

Since then, a bunch of recoverd messages folders open everytime I start WM...

And a lot of edb and temp files come and go on my desktop...

Can anybody help me?

Hi

DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU ARE SURE YOU CAN CARRY IT THROUGH I AM NOT
RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING RESULTING FROM THIS SUGGESTION.

There is a drastic way of recovering but it has some disadvantages but also
some positive aspects.
Essentially the idea is to re-install WinMail by deleting the WinMail
Folder. There is of course no install/uninstall facility in Vista for
WinMail as it is part of the operating system.
However if you delete the WinMail Folder when you restart Vista will install
a new copy of WinMail.
YOU WILL HAVE LOST ALL YOUR ACCOUNT SETTINGS AND YOUR MESSAGES.
So to deal with this export your account settings .iaf files and import them
when WinMail has been rebuilt.
Backup your messages or make a copy of your important ones. Obviouly when
you deleted the two databases you will have lost your messages and the other
files in WinMail still point to to the old databases and WinMail is
attempting to recover.
Make sure that you can send and receive emails before carrying out the
suggestion. Make sure you know how to backup or copy your emails and to
reinstate them before carrying out this suggestion. Similarly with the
account settings
You have to make sure that WinMail is not running when carrying out the
deletion. You may need to go to the Task Manager and stop WinMail.exe.
After restarting Vista and carrying out the process you will have a virgin
copy of WinMail that you can configure as you like.
As you have experienced dealing with with the internals of WinMail may have
many unexpected consequences.
After carrying out the process when you look at the folders in WinMail they
are likely to be coloured blue indicating they are compressed.
Probably not a good idea to delete database files as they are linked to
indexes and other elements of the WinMail utility.
However Vista is more likely to recover from the complete removal of a
utility than some internal part of it.
If you succeed then you will always be able to recover from a corrupted
WinMail utility.
There are a number of tutorials in the newsgroup dealing with how to recover
from mail problems and some are very informative and give a good insight
into WinMail.
A little time spent researching the newsgroup will show that this and other
solutions are available.
I have not described how to find the various folders as presumably you know
as you deleted the database files.Be very wary of taking suggestion from
newsgroups.
However I had the same problem and this process worked for me.

Beware it is on your own head

Move all the contents of the message store to a subdirectory under Documents
so that the store is empty and delete the edb files on the desktop. Also
see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Then start WinMail and if it works okay,
then you can import the messages from the moved directory.
