fragmented files on desktop

I have 3 icons on my desktop named edbres00002, edb.chk and edb that formed
after I followed advise from a thread on how to delete a message from inbox.
I cannot remove these. Can anybody tell me how to fix this? edb.chk is a file
fragment found when disk scanned?

Those are stray Windows Mail files, probably redundant, and are
due to side effects of deleting the MSMessageStore files.
Try deleting those stray files. If that doesn't fix it, just upgrade to WLM.

These files were probably recreated in
C:\Users\(YourName)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail, except you might
not see an "edb" without an extension.

On your Desktop, right-click on each of the three files, and choose
Properties. Go to the Security tab. Click on the Advanced button. Click on
the Owner tab. Click on the Edit button. Change the owner to Col
(Col-PC\Col), or whatever your user name is. Apply, OK. Then Apply, OK
again.

Back on the regular Security tab, click on the Edit Button. Select
Col (Col-PC\Col), and put a checkmark next to Full Control, under
the Allow column. If there are any checkmarks under Deny, clear them.
Apply, OK. Then Apply, OK again to close Properties. Now try to delete the
files...
