need MWUTIL help

S. Yarrow

I am a victim of the "unable to delete emails in my inbox" problem. So in my
naivety I tried mwutil to see what it does. It found problems with the mail
database which it fixed. so far so good, BUT which didn't solve the problem.
Another BUT: now I have files with names like "edb", "edb.chk", "tmp.edb",
"edbtemp", "edbres0000..." popping up on my desktop. PLEASE tell me I
didn't break something beyond repair.
Thanks in advance,
Shep Yarrow

p.s. Is there a real fix for this inbox problem?

Sounds like you've moved the message stores to the Desktop.

What folder are you showing for the message store location in Tools |
Options | Advanced tab | Maintenance button | Store Folders button?

It shows c:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

I don't know why those are on the desktop. Try deleting them and seeing if
that makes any difference.

I'd relocate the entire message store. First see
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Then go to Tools | Options | Advanced |
Maintenance | Store Folder to find the message store location. Then move
everything under that Windows Mail directory to another directory, so that
the Windows Mail directory is completely empty. Then restart WinMail and it
will open fresh with nothing in the database. You can then add your
accounts and if they work correctly then you can import messages from the
directory to which you moved the files back into WinMail (see
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm2wm).
