When I log on to Windows Mail, I get the following pop up message:

When I log on to Windows Mail, I get the following pop up message:
The message store has been corrupted by an application external to Windows
Mail. Windows Mail has been able to successfully recover from this
corruption. (0x00000000).

edb, edbres0000..., edbres0000..., temp.edb, edb00001, edbtmp
I followed all of your instructions last year and I still can't get these
off of my desktop. I have tried to delete them and they keep comming back. I
don't want to go to live mail. I just want the vista that I paid for to work.
So how do I get rid of these folders on my desktop that were created by
trying to fix the problems deleting my mail.
thanks,
bj

I don't know how to say this any plainer than the previous time.
Your Windows Mail is corrupted, which is why it continues to generate
those spurious files on your desktop.
Add to that the fact that Windows Mail is considered 'dead' and
(according to Microsoft) has been replaced by Windows Live Mail,
your easiest way out seems obvious...

Apart from wiping Vista and reinstalling it, there is a laborious
procedure for 'resetting' Windows Mail:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/62560-windows-mail-problems.html

Scroll down that page and read the section "How to Backup and Reset
Windows Mail".

Why is Windows Mail considered dead? It works.

Windows Live Mail doesn't. Kill it.

Microsoft seems to think otherwise. They are releasing new versions of
Windows Live Mail, but have not released any updates for Windows
Mail for several months (about 17 months?).

The program features were frozen 17 months ago, and no new fixes
or improvements are forthcoming.
It works.

Sort of. I would hate to have to add up all the complaints and bugs that
have been posted here about Windows Mail over the past 15 months!

I've helped many users transition from WM to WLM, and most have been
happier with the change.

People without problems generally don't post.

Then you are one of the few for which Gmail doesn't work on WLM.
If WLM had a Gmail bug, the complaints would be ubiquitous and deafening!

Gmail works fine with WLM, and always has.
And why shouldn't it? There is nothing unique about WLM.
The POP3 protocol it uses is universal.

They had a decent program that needed some fixes, but instead they dumbed it
down and reduced features while leaving the bugs in.

And meanwhile the OE and WinMail users continue to suffer.

Hi I'm Cindi ~ My computer is only a few weeks old and I am having all sorts
of problems. I am not even sure if they are related. My computer will freeze
and not respond to cont alt del. then when I am forced to restart I get the
error - corrupted by 0 x eight zero's. Do I want to switch to live e-mail?
what is that? How is it different? Given todays date, is that the current
solution? If so, for the really puter illiterate and I will have to write it
all down b4 I do it, how exactly do I fix it? step by step? Also,
Occasionally I will have all the e-mail downloaded 4times - everything since
I got the computer, everything that I have deleted several times. I am afraid
that one time, it will try to download it all x4 and my computer will be done
for. My computer now also makes a small popping sound when going from screen
to screen - but not always. Is that related? How does one fix that? Please be
kind, it must be so nice to have such an incredible understanding of
computers to add to one's list of conquests! I admire those who can, I really
do and I am so grateful for any help that you can offer!

Hi ~ I am having all sorts of probs. I don't know if they are related. My
puter will freeze and not respond to ctrl alt del. When I restart I get the
corrupted error 0 x 00000000. Pls, what exactly is live mail, how is it
different exactly, and given todays date is that the best solution? If so,
could you carefully and step by step explain how to do that and what if
anything will i lose? Also, I get a small popping sound frequently when I go
from screen to screen, is that related? also, occasionally I get downloaded
not only a copy of every e-mail I have ever recieved but times 3 or 4. This
is a relatively new computer so I'm worried. I have already had to delete a
couple thous. e-mails a few times now. Typically I keep under two hundred.
Please be patient w/ me I'm not very impressive with computers as you are.
thanx!
